IN MEMORY OF
CALVIN M. RAYBURN
1940 – 2001
Cal started at the Iowa State Crime Laboratory on November 5, 1973. He was hired to analyze blood and urine samples for alcohol concentration and in 1974 was given the indirect breath alcohol testing program (indium crimpers) from the State Hygienic Laboratory. In 1975 he evaluated evidential breath instruments and started the use of the Intoxilyzer 4011A. In 1987 he was a founding member of the International Association for Chemical Testing and served as chairman of the membership committee from 1988 to 1990. In 1990 he was appointed to the board of directors and served until 1996.
Cal was an avid photographer and was a member of the Fine Print Group and the Des Moines Camera Club.
In July 2000, Cal was diagnosed with lung cancer which had spread to his liver, aorta, lymph nodes and finally to his brain. His final days were spent at a Hospice facility where he was treated like royalty. He was very pleased with all the outpouring of love from his friends.
Cal is survived by his parents, Marlow and Alice of Manchester, Iowa and a brother, Ken of Anaheim, Calif.
